Iron Age Coins

Coins started being struck in the British Isles 2000 years ago. They were made of gold and base metal and the original designs were copied from Greek coins that circulated widely in Europe. The Mint's collection of Iron Age coins is small by comparison with the British Museum, but it does have attractive examples of the type of coins that were first used in Britain.
